Origin of the Health Belief Model
The Health Belief Model was developed in the 1950's by U.S. Public Health Services social psychologists:
Godfrey Hochbaum
Irwin Rosenstock
Stephen Kegels.
The idea was developed due to a response to a failed free tuberculosis (TB) health screening program. Psychologists pursued the TB study to create and help predict public attitudes and actions on health issues.
